Why does the currency switch to USD at checkout?

Currently, our shopping cart software only allows checkouts in one currency. Because we are based in the US, our sales are made in USD.
We have added a currency converter to our site to show your local currency on the product pages, but when you go to checkout, it will always be changed to USD.
We will always display the final price you are paying before you complete your payment.
